From Logs to Planks
March 2011 : Carnog’s two hard working cobs, Tyler and Billy, pulled a few large Western Red Cedar logs out of the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) woodland, Coed Gwern near Machynlleth, Powys. On a Sustainable Woodland Management course, local woodsman Peter came to the woodland with his mobile sawmill and turned the trees into planks. They are to be used as foot boards on new bridges around the woodland. It was wonderful to see the final product of the horses’ hard work and how they are demonstrating truly sustainable woodland management.
